Outdoor Workout

Is anybody else LOVING this warm weather we have had lately? We sure have. My little boy has been sneaking out of our house almost every morning to go play. I hope the warmth is here to stay! This is another full body crossfit workout that can be done inside or out. Let the kids play in the front yard while you get a good workout in and enjoy the sun!  I have modified this to be a nearly-no-equipment, at home workout. All you need is a jump rope and a chair (or a park bench.) If you are just beginning an exercise routine, I would suggest cutting the reps in half! Warm-up, then do the … [Read more...]

WOD: Leg Day

Leg day! Always my favorite day. These workouts will tone your butt and legs. Most of these exercises you will need weights for. I have a barbell and weight set in my basement, but this can obviously be performed at a gym. To get lean, you MUST lift heavy. I hear all the time that girls shouldn't lift heavy, but this is not true! If you want to get lean, you need to lift heavy. You should be able to barely finish your set. If after your 2nd and 3rd set, you can't do as many reps as you did in the first set because your form is sacrificing, then you are lifting the correct amount of weight! … [Read more...]

WOD: The Filthy 50

This one's a killer! A perfect workout for the midweek slump to get you through the week and keep you strong and energized. I have modified this workout to be a no-equipment workout. Well, almost-you need a chair and a kettlebell or dumbbell. However, if you don't have any equipment, you can skip the movements that require it and still get an AWESOME workout in! This is a full body workout that will get your muscles burning and your heart pumping. To make this workout easier, cut the reps in half. To make it harder, add weights. WOD: The Filthy 50. Accomplish all of the following reps … [Read more...]

5 Things to Do Before You Start a Diet Or Exercise Plan

Sorry I haven't posted anything in over a week! Some crazy and unexpected things have been going on over  here in the Evans family, and I am just getting back into the swing of things. I am loving this warm weather today though! Having the sun shine through my bedroom window gives me a lot more energy to do work instead of wanting to curl into bed and take a nap ;) I want to make it really easy for people to get started on their health journey. I call it a health journey, instead of a diet, because making healthy changes really should be a lifestyle change rather than a temporary … [Read more...]

How to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night

Fact: Babies who are on a healthy sleeping schedule are happier babies! My sister in law gave me the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby" before I had my first babe, and I have been hooked ever since. (There are tons of sleep books out there and most of them are relatively similar.) Both of my children have slept through the night since they were newborns, and they have both been the happiest babies. I think part of their good sleeping habits and good temperament  is due to my dedication to their need for sleep. Sleep is extremely important for infants for many reasons. First, it helps … [Read more...]

How Moms Can Benefit from Keeping a Schedule

I have always been a planner. I look back on my years in high school and college, and my planners were filled from dawn to dusk. I loved being busy and always having a plan. Now that I am a mom, I don’t have quite so many things going on in the day. Not that I have a lot of down time or don’t do anything during the day, just that a lot of the things I do every day are not things that need to be written down (make breakfast, pack diaper, get kids ready, do the dishes, the obvious things). As I have mentioned in previous posts, this past year has been a bit of a roller coaster for our family. In … [Read more...]

Hair Extensions Are Not Going to Make You Prettier

I have struggled with my self-esteem for pretty much my whole life. I think most people struggle with this in some way or another. But I think this is definitely my biggest weakness. When I was pregnant with my first child, I had very unrealistic expectations about what my body would look like after giving birth. I had many people tell me comments like this: "You're so young, you will bounce right back...Breastfeeding makes you lose tons of weight...You might even be skinnier than before you were pregnant!...Eat whatever you want, you are eating for two now!" Do you see how contradicting … [Read more...]
